NMISA Radioactivity Standards Internship 2026

NMISA is offering a 24-month internship opportunity within its Biomedical Science unit under the Radioactivity Standards section in Cape Town.

The internship is designed to provide practical training in the development and maintenance of radioactivity measurement standards and the delivery of related measurement services.

Successful candidates will gain experience in an accredited laboratory environment and support technical work, research, measurement activities and client-related services.

Minimum Qualification

Key Responsibilities

Successful interns will work in an accredited laboratory and will be expected to comply with NMISA policies, procedures and its Total Quality Management System.

Duties may include assisting with the development and maintenance of radioactivity measurement standards, new measurement capabilities and client-related measurement work.

Interns may also assist with analysis, generating certificates, checking results, preparing and reviewing procedures and maintaining detailed laboratory records.

Other responsibilities include assisting with procurement of laboratory consumables and equipment, maintaining health, safety and environmental requirements and supporting laboratory housekeeping activities.

Interns may also assist senior laboratory staff with research, testing, method development and technical activities.

Applicants should be able to work in a team, meet strict deadlines and demonstrate strong organisational, planning and time-management skills.

Monthly Stipend

Successful candidates will receive a monthly stipend ranging from:

R7,478 to R8,878 per month
