Who can apply

• You must fall into one of the below categories: you are a permanent employee, of a grower in the Waitrose supply chain and are within the minimum wage income bracket you are a child of a permanent employee, of a grower in the Waitrose supply chain and are within the minimum wage income bracket you are a child under the legal guardianship of a permanent employee, of a grower in the Waitrose supply chain and are within the minimum wage income bracket
• You must be studying or intend on studying towards an undergraduate qualification within one of the fields of study listed above
• You must be studying or have received provisional acceptance to study at a recognised university or TVET college in South Africa, Namibia, Zambia or Zimbabwe
• you are a permanent employee, of a grower in the Waitrose supply chain and are within the minimum wage income bracket
• you are a child of a permanent employee, of a grower in the Waitrose supply chain and are within the minimum wage income bracket
• you are a child under the legal guardianship of a permanent employee, of a grower in the Waitrose supply chain and are within the minimum wage income bracket

Waitrose Foundation Southern Africa (WFSA) Bursary 2027

WHAT FIELDS OF STUDY DOES THE WFSA BURSARY COVER?

The Waitrose Foundation Southern Africa (WFSA) Bursary is inviting students to apply for their bursary programme, for the 2027 academic year.

Bursaries will be awarded to permanent employees, children of employees, working within the Waitrose supply chain. Bursaries will be awarded for studies within the following fields:

• Agrisciences
• Business Sciences (Commerce, Logistics, Retail etc.)
• Community Health and Social Sciences
• Education
• Medicine and Health Sciences

WHAT ARE THE ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR THE WFSA BURSARY?

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

WHAT DOCUMENTS MUST BE SUBMITTED FOR THE WFSA BURSARY?

You may be requested to submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your application:

• ID document
• Most recent academic record
• Proof of tertiary acceptance/ provisional acceptance
• Proof of employment within the Waitrose supply chain

Note: the final list of supporting documents required will be communicated by the WFSA when receiving the application form.

WHAT DOES THE WAITROSE FOUNDATION DO?

The Waitrose Foundation Southern Africa is a non-profit organisation established in 2005 through a partnership between UK retailer Waitrose and its Southern African fresh produce suppliers. The Foundation was created to improve the quality of life of farm workers and their families by investing in sustainable community development initiatives across South Africa, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Rather than providing once-off assistance, the Foundation focuses on long-term empowerment through programmes that strengthen education, economic opportunities, health, environmental sustainability and worker participation.

Education is one of the Foundation’s key priorities, with support ranging from early childhood development and school initiatives to tertiary bursaries and skills development. Through its bursary programme, the Waitrose Foundation helps eligible students gain access to higher education, enabling them to develop valuable skills and qualifications that contribute to their future careers and the growth of their communities.
