Who can apply

• You must be a South African citizen
• You must NOT older be than 35 years old, at the closing date
• You must reside in or originate from SIOC-CDT beneficiary communities: Gamagara Local Municipality (Northern Cape) Ga-Segonyana Local Municipality (Northern Cape) Joe Morolong Local Municipality (Northern Cape) Tsantsabane Local Municipality (Northern Cape) Thabazimbi Local Municipality (Limpopo)
• You must be currently in Matric or have completed Matric
• You must be studying or intend on studying on a full-time basis, towards an undergraduate or postgraduate qualification in ANY field
• You must have achieved a minimum overall average of 65%, in your most recent academic results
• You must have been accepted or provisional accepted to study at a recognised public institution in South Africa (University/ University of Technology/ TVET/ FET College)
• You must be in need of financial assistance, with a household income of less than R600 000 per year (before deductions)
• Students with disabilities are encouraged to apply

SIOC-CDT Bursary South Africa 2027

WHAT FIELDS OF STUDY DOES THE SIOC-CDT BURSARY COVER?

The SIOC Community Development Trust (SIOC-CDT) is inviting students to apply for their bursary programme, for the 2027 academic year.

Bursaries will be awarded for Undergraduate and Postgraduate studies in ANY field of study, for students residing in SIOC-CDT’s beneficiary communities (in the Northern Cape and Limpopo).

Note: students pursuing studies in other fields may also apply, however students pursuing studies in the fields above will receive preference.

WHAT EXPENSES DOES THE SIOC-CDT BURSARY COVER?

The bursary will provide cover for the following expenses: registration and tuition fees, accommodation, prescribed study material, laptop and a monthly stipend. Students with disabilities will also receive assistive devices to enhance their learning.

WHAT IS THE SELECTION PROCESS FOR THE SIOC-CDT BURSARY?

Shortlisted applicants will be contacted and required to attend interview. If you have not received any feedback, please regard your application as unsuccessful.

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

Applications must be submitted online at: SIOC-CDT Bursary Application 2027 (the link will be added once applications open, mid-September).

WHAT DOCUMENTS MUST I SUBMIT FOR THE SIOC-CDT BURSARY?

Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your completed application form (the submission of these documents is compulsory - if any items are missing, your application may be disqualified):

• ID document (certified copy)
• Matric June results/ prelim results, if currently in Matric (certified copy)
• Matric certificate, if completed Matric (certified copy)
• Most recent tertiary academic results/ transcripts, if currently studying (certified copy)
• Proof of acceptance/ provisional acceptance/ application to a public tertiary institution (on institutions letterhead)
• Parents or guardians proof of household income (latest payslips if employed, affidavit if unemployed)
• Parents or guardians 3 months recent bank statements
• Proof of residence (rates and taxes or water and electricity account, letter from landlord or affidavit from you local counsellor)
• Medical note explaining type of disability, if applicable

Please note the following regarding supporting documents:

• All certified documents must not be older than 3 months.
• Documents must be clear, legible and relevant.
• Do not password protect any documents.
• Documents must be in PDF or Jpeg format (not an editable document, such as word documents).
• Documents must not be altered or tampered with - particularly dates.

Applications will open mid-September 2026.

Applications will close on 30 November 2026 (at 12:00 midday).

WHAT DOES THE SIOC-CDT DO?

The Sishen Iron Ore Company - Community Development Trust (SIOC-CDT) was established in 2006 to support the long-term social and economic development of communities located near Sishen Iron Ore Company (SIOC) operations. SIOC operates across several municipal areas in the Northern Cape, as well as in Limpopo.

Established by Sishen Iron Ore Company (SIOC) (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of Kumba Iron Ore, the Trust focuses on creating opportunities that can improve the lives and prospects of people in its beneficiary communities.

Through its education initiatives, SIOC-CDT provides bursary funding to deserving students from disadvantaged backgrounds, helping them pursue tertiary studies at universities and other recognised higher education institutions across South Africa. These bursaries form part of the Trust’s broader commitment to expanding access to education and developing skilled individuals who can contribute to the future of their communities.
