WHAT FIELDS OF STUDY DOES THE KZN FILM BURSARY COVER?

The KwaZulu-Natal Tourism and Film Authority is inviting students to apply for their bursary programme, for the 2027 academic year.

Bursaries will be awarded to students residing in KwaZulu-Natal, for studies at institutions within KZN, within the following fields:

  • Film and TV Production, Animation, Acting for Film or TV, Digital skills (Gaming, VFX, VR, AR) (undergraduate)
  • Tourism related studies (Heritage and Cultural Tourism Studies, Eco-Tourism, Hospitality Management, Tourism Management) (undergraduate)
  • Animation (postgraduate)

MORE ABOUT THE KZN FILM BURSARY

The bursary programme was originally introduced by the KwaZulu-Natal Film Commission in 2014 to help address skills shortages within the province’s film and audiovisual sector. Through financial support for relevant studies, the programme aims to encourage young people to pursue careers that can contribute to the continued development of KwaZulu-Natal’s creative industries.

WHAT EXPENSES DOES THE KZN FILM BURSARY COVER?

The bursary will provide cover for the following expenses: tuition fees (full cover for public university studies/ capped fees at government rates for private institutions), accommodation (for students living at least 50kms+ away from the school) and a R1500 monthly allowance.
